One of the royal guests at the Ashwa Poojan ceremony in Udaipur this year was the editor of ET Travel, Nimisha Tiwari. When she got back, she presented her experience of Dussehra, Ashwa Poojan, and her interaction with the royal family in a beautiful article, published in the Editor’s Pick section.

India’s idol of courage that rose from Udaipur - Maharana Pratap

8. October 2013 11:19 by Team Eternal Mewar in Eternal Mewar

Maharana Pratap (1572-1597), the 54th  custodian of the House of Mewar and son of Maharana Udai Singh, has been a Rajput ruler who is celebrated throughout the country for his courage and patriotism. Col. Tod, the famous British antiquarian, says, "There is not a pass in the Alpine Aravalli that is not sanctified by some deed of Maharana Pratap – some brilliant victory, or oftener, more glorious defeat."

As the first freedom fighter in the annals of India, he was the precursor and inspiration for Mahatma Gandhi himself. To the people at large, he is known forever as "the Light and Life of the Hindu Community." What is the mettle that made Maharana Pratap? Undoubtedly, it was his seamless courage, respect for his dynasty and the unshakable principle of never bowing down to the wrong or unjust. A famous poem on him rightly asks the readers, "Has anyone seen the Maharana bow his head before the balustrade in the Mughal court?"

Maharana Pratap’s principles never failed to flow down to his horse. Chetak, his favourite charger died in the battle, but not before saving his master's life. The horse is known to have jumped over a mountain stream when pursued by two Mughal chiefs. Chetak died soon after he had seen his master to safety.

We’d be glad to have your views and contributions on Maharana Pratap. Do leave us a comment!

There shall be health around us

15. September 2013 22:33 by Team Eternal Mewar in Eternal Mewar

It cannot be denied that as we swiftly pace towards globalization and the finer aspects of urban living, there is still a large number of our tribal communities that are left unnoticed. These are people who face challenges that could stir up our own souls. And we are not talking of financial challenges or education or even food. We are talking of conditions beyond their own control. Conditions that they may have to live with. Actually, die with.

Vector borne diseases are becoming a potential threat to human health and the socio-economic growth. Mohan Lal Sukhadia University, Udaipur and National Academy of Vector Borne Diseases (NAVBD), Bhubaneshwar have organised the 12th International Conference on Vector and Vector Borne Diseases to be held on 17th September 2013. Centered on the theme ‘VECTOR BORNE DISEASES – Challenges in 21st Century: Their Global Impacts and Strategic Management’, the conference will provide a platform for academics, scientists, pharmaceuticals, medical and public health researchers and experts and common people to join hands to fight with the devastating vector borne diseases. The venue of this conference is none other than the Durbar Hall, Fateh Prakash Palace Convention Centre. MMCF is happy to be able to support this significant cause and looks forward to offer its services for the same in future.

Have you met Anurag Mehta?

11. September 2013 11:41 by Team Eternal Mewar in Events & Shows

A young enthusiast who literally talks to the canvas. Self-taught artist who masters the language of water colours. A man of traditions blended with the contemporary who finds his inspirations in architecture. A local of Udaipur whose first love is the City of Lakes. And his recent collection of artworks too!

If you think, with this you’ve known him already, hold on! He is his work. And art is his attitude. He thrives on the architectural beauties of Rajasthan and finds his anchor in Udaipur, with all the marvelous forts and palaces, colurs and cultures of all realms and fascinating peculiarities in the nooks and corners of the city. He comments, "Big gates and narrow streets are a peculiarity of the lake city", and has not refrained from capturing them on his canvas in interesting strokes.

A chance meeting with Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar set the ball rolling for Anurag. It was an instant decision by MMCF to promote a local artist of such caliber. This adds to the promotional initiatives that MMCF takes to keep alive the art and culture of Mewar. Anurag Mehta’s recent collection comprises of 11 water colour paintings of Udaipur covering the City Palace, Manek Chowk, Shiv Niwas Palace, Jagmandir, Shambhu Niwas (the royal residence), Toran Pole, Tripolia. These landmarks have been beautifully captured in different views and hues by the artist’s brushes and can be valued only when seen.

MMCF is happy to become a medium to present the works by Anurag Mehta before you. Please visit our website to admire his paintings and order online. This is a non-profit initiative from MMCF in sole admiration of good art.
