With its natural ambience, this is a truly appealing place to stay. Guest rooms, sitting areas, and facilities are tucked at various levels into the hillside, sparing many great trees, which have been carefully preserved and labeled. The lovely architecture uses local stone and local traditions. The pleasant open dining room has a high thatched roof, a central copper-hooded fireplace, and delicious Indian and Continental foods, often served buffet style. Staff members are helpful and eager to please. Most evenings there is also a troupe of Rajasthani musicians and dancers near the pool. The main attraction nearby is the amazing 15th century Kumbhalgarh Fort, with its massive 36-kilometre-long heavily buttressed boundary wall, second in length only to the Great Wall of China. Within its boundaries are palaces, water retaining structures, and many Jain and Hindu temples. Our favorite is on an interior hill: the Golera Jain Temple, whose every surface is embellished with elaborately carved stone figures. Surrounding the fort is the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, which can be viewed with a guide on foot or by jolting jeep ride up hill and down. You won’t see much from the jeep except the interesting jungle. Foot trekking early in the morning would probably yield more sightings of the animals, which are said to include panthers, bears, wild boars, and various deers. So far, this whole off-the-beaten path qrea is quite peaceful with relatively little tourist development, aside from beautiful Aodhi Hotel and a few cheaper places.
